October is when Southwest Florida finally exhales. The humidity backs off, the evenings get a little breezier, and the whole area seems to remember how much it loves being outside. Here are the October events in Cape Coral, Fort Myers, and Estero we're circling this month, from trunk-or-treats and haunted boardwalks to two Oktoberfests and the first stone crab claws of the season.

For the Kids & Family
Six Mile Cypress Slough Wet Walks
A guided wade into parts of the preserve that are normally off limits. Old cypress, ferns, and maybe an alligator sighting. Last chance of the season, since these wrap up at the end of the month.
Spooktacular Celebration
An early start to the costume season right here in the Cape, with games and not-too-scary fun for the little ones.
Fall Festival at Lakes Park
Our closest thing to a northern fall. There's a pumpkin patch, hayrides, inflatables, the Halloween Express train, and Scarecrows in the Park winding through the Children's Garden, where you can vote for your favorite.
Spooktacular Night at Estero Park
Trunk-or-treating followed by an outdoor screening of Elio at 7:15pm. Pack the blanket and make a night of it.
Cape Coral Trunk-or-Treat
The City's big Halloween night, and it's free. Think candy-filled trunks, inflatables, a trackless train, a costume contest, and a Halloween movie, all capped off with a drone show lighting up the sky over City Hall. Bring your own candy bag plus a blanket or lawn chairs.
Edison & Ford Fall Festival
A Halloween morning tradition. Pick and paint a pumpkin, climb the famous banyan tree, stroll the scarecrow walk made by local schoolkids, and come in costume for candy. Free to browse, and activities are priced individually (bring cash).
Spooky Season
Haunted Walk: Face Your Fears
One of Southwest Florida's longest running Halloween traditions, a trail through the dark woods with a cast of characters who really commit. Check the schedule for which nights it's running, and grab the Ultimate Fear Pass if you're the repeat-visit type.
Sloughwitched
The slough's boardwalk goes full haunted for two nights only. It's about a 90-minute walk and meant for ages 10 and up.
Date Night & Nightlife
Fort Myers Art Walk
First Friday in the River District. Local artists line the streets, galleries throw open their doors, and dinner downtown is basically required.
Gov't Mule & Ziggy Marley
A jam band and reggae double bill on a Tuesday night. A good excuse to book the sitter midweek.
Ty Myers: The Legal Tour
One of country's fastest rising young voices brings his tour down to Estero.
Fort Myers Music Walk
Third Friday means live music on nearly every corner downtown, with the genre changing block by block. An easy, wander-around kind of date night.
Everblades Home Opener
Hockey is back. The Blades raise their newest championship banner before puck drop against Orlando, and the first 7,000 fans get LED bracelets.
The Doobie Brothers
The Walk This Road Tour. Decades of classic rock you already know every word to.
An Evening with CAKE
An outdoor show on the river right as the evenings turn perfect. Grab dinner downtown first.

A Halloween night plan for the grown-ups once the kids are tucked in with their candy.
Foodie Finds
Fort Myers Oktoberfest
A Munich-style beer hall party right downtown, and admission and parking are both free. Brats, schnitzel, fresh pretzels, house-brewed German beers, and stein-hoisting contests. All ages until 6pm, and leashed pups are welcome in the beer garden.
Cape Coral Farmers Market
Our favorite slow Saturday morning in downtown Cape. Local produce, fresh flowers, baked goods, and plenty of familiar faces.
Stone Crab Season Opens
Not an event so much as a local holiday. Claws start showing up on menus around town mid-month, and that first plate with mustard sauce is a true Southwest Florida rite of fall.
Oktoberfest at Fort Myers Brewing Co.
Round two of Oktoberfest, free to attend, at one of the area's original craft breweries.
Cape Coral Oktoberfest
The Cape's own Oktoberfest, now in its fifth decade. Three stages, oompah bands, schnitzel and bratwurst, and a carnival for the kids. We'll add the dates here as soon as the club confirms them.
Out in the Community
Coconut Point Farmers Market
A weekday market worth the drive south, and an easy one to pair with a little shopping.
Fall at the Farm: Market & Music
A free morning out on the farm with local vendors and live music. A laid-back way to spend a Saturday morning.
Cape Coral Bike Night
Bike Night kicks off its new season, and you don't need a bike to enjoy it. Hairdaze headlines, food vendors and local shops line the street, and the Slow Bike Race at 8pm is surprisingly fun to watch.
“Ding” Darling Art in the Wild
A three-day 150th birthday celebration for Ding Darling himself, with birding tours, plein-air artists along Wildlife Drive, family crafts, and the Indigo Trail boardwalk ribbon cutting on Oct 21. Worth the drive over the causeway.
